MARIETTA SQUARE
Rebranding a local community center
The Marietta Square is a local hotspot in the city of Marietta. It is located downtown and offers a unique space for eating, art, and recreation. While viewing the space there was a lack of branding displayed throughout the square. The branding that was there was difficult to find and often required more work on a user to find it. This project was a hypothetical redesign of the brand mark based off of observation and research done over the span of a month. The deliverables for this project included a new logo with brand guide, and a physical product in the form of a banner.
The first step of the project required a set research into the demographics of the area. Things that were noted was that the area was predominantly white with a median income of $47,996.
The second step of the project required an observational research approach. Signage, People, Art, and other points of interest was the primary focus behind the photos.
The third step of the project came down to creating Persona’s or representations of what a typical “Mariettaian” would look like. This information was based off of a survey along with the observational and statistical data.
Following this came the heavy ideation phase of the project. This came about through heavy exploration of logo and type, through hand drawn and digital sketches.
After refinement came picking a logo and digitizing it. After multiple iterations and finalizing a logo, came the creation of a branding guide.
The final part of the project was a physical product. This came out through the production of a banner that could be displayed on light poles located throughout the square.
This Marietta Square project was my first experience with Brand Design and research. I learned a lot about time management and exploration through iteration. The Marietta Square is a unique spot and it was an interesting challenge to bring a voice to an area with its own unique identity.
