Athens-Clarke county is one of the poorest counties in Georgia. Despite being the home of the University of Georgia, Athens-Clarke county has 26.6% of their population classified as below the poverty line. With that in mind, we believe there is a need for a financial resource guide to share opportunities to enjoy Athens on a budget.
Our team of 8 designers believed that the best way to share deals of food, shopping and leisure activities in the city of Athens was through the creation of a monthly issue periodical booklet along with the creation of an app and social media page.
Our team was split into 2 subteams, one print, and one digital. The print team consisted of designers Tyler Powell, Cody Murray, Natasia Rozenberg, and Payton Pearson. The digital team consisted of CeCe Nguyen, Pearl Lin, Kaylee Han, and Chris Wright.
Our Instagram social media page was created to showcase the special savings that our app and periodical would be highlighting throughout the month.
For our periodical we wanted to make sure the citizens of Athens were given a quality product. We ensured that the book was fun and inviting to view, while the materials did not feel cheap. Our goal was to make sure that no one felt like they were lesser for using our product.
Second iteration of the wireframe
The app was created with the intention that it would be easily downloaded and used to find daily or weekly deals.
In this project, Kaylee Han and I assumed the responsibility of creating the high-fidelity prototype using Figma. I based my design decisions off of the wireframes that were created by CeCe Nguyen over the period of the project.
I used Figma in order to create interactive components to give the prototype a refined visual look.
Basing off the feedback of peers and through user testing, we adjusted the colors of the app to be more consistent with the print version. We also adjusted the iconography to be more consistent across the different screens.
As a result, our team delivered a high-fidelity prototype, social media page, and printed periodical that received positive feedback during testing.
Personally I gained valuable experience in working within a team environment. Communication was heavily emphasized in order to complete the project within the three weeks we were given. Working within the specific role that I was given, I was able to learn more about turning wireframe sketches into high-fidelity mockups on Figma.
